From a press release I recently received:

If only there was a way to work out without actually having to leave your computer, right? Well good news, there now is!

SurfShelf, a portable, polycarbonate tray that attaches to any exercise machine, allows anyone to use their laptop while exercising. Lightweight and completely portable, it maintains a solid foundation for laptops of virtually any size allowing you to stay connected while burning calories!
No. Just ... no.

NO! Just...no! Wow. As the kiwis would say, "Only in America..."

Yeah, that's just wrong. On so many levels (including that level stand it's on). When I workout, I'm really looking to workout - build up a sweat. Not be able to carry on a conversation easily. If you're using this, you're not doing a very strenuous workout.

And isn't a secondary purpose of working out to relieve the stress of the day (or start the day stress free). Working while working out = increased stress...

I could go on, but...I've got work to get done, so I can then go home and work out. Hey, maybe this device is for me after all (not!).

Not a chance would I want to do this...unless my company was paying for a treadmill that went in my cube and then I might compormise. However...what's the sweat protection on that thing?!

I can't see myself doing this, unless I was just walking on the treadmill and really behind on work.

I think if I saw someone with this, I would 'accidentally' knock it off the machine.

Wrong, just wrong on so many levels. It's no better then the wanker that works out at the gym with a Bluetooth piece in his ear. GOD forbid he miss a phone call. Then again he is the same guy who does biceps in 4 different ways three time a week.

I think I would barf if I tried to look at a computer while I was running on a treadmill.

May I just say, hahahahaha ...

Very well put, all.

I will refuse to have sympathy for those that fall off a treadmill while using one of those.

My first instinct was the same as yours, but I think that it would be good for watching videos from the computer. Maybe some guided treadmill workout or a missed episode of Project Runway. If I’m spending an hour on the treadmill, I need something for a bit of distraction. Being the nerd that I am, I usually TiVo Jeapordy to watch during the slow part of my treadmill intervals.

The real issue I have with the computer stand is that it may take up too much space at the front of the treadmill, and I would fall off of the back.

Oddly enough, it doesn't look like she's actually working, does it? (If she is, then definitely sign me up for the job where all I have to do is smile at a laptop all day.)

But I do like the concept in general. In fact, we should try other activity combinations. An ice cream maker welded to your bicycle would save time and make biking fun. Or how about attaching an ironing board to your golf cart? Or think of all the time wasted because you can't vacuum your floor and paint the ceiling at the same time? It's just not right, people.
